This may be closed by the mod's but I think I should at least try to develop a thread like this. I'm not intending this to be a 'slagging off' thread so to speak, but I think there should be somewhere 'i.e. this thread' that allows people to tell us about the times they feel hard done by on PEELfield. I'm hopin' this will improve PEEL and stop people clogging up the boards with threads 3 posts long. I mean no harm by this thread and if it comes back to smack me in the face I will take it.

PS. Sorry about the crap title, IT should read;

'THE STEAM THREAD? MAYBE?'

There's a rant thread in off-topip where you can complain about general things. But I don't really understand what you're talking about.

Edit: There's a questions/suggestions too. I hope these are what you're looking for.

I mean about things that have happened on PEEL - sorry if I dint make this clear before, I've changed it now   :)

For example, someone opened a thread called GROW UP, to complain about people not being able to express themselves on PEEL but instead of this jus clogging up the board and being closed I think there sould be a thread where people can write all this stuff.

OK OK, clearly this hasn't got off to a good start so let me re-phrase the opening post of the thread, completely.

Don't know. To me it sounded more like he wanted to whine about the rules cramping his style. Observe:

And I’m sick of all the little rules which, are so childish it’s laughable!

The argument being the rules chased away members, ignoring the fact that PEEL have never had more than 100-150 active members at any given time. The many members with 1 or 2 posts consist of people joining to ask a specific question and then thanking for the answer.

For the record, this is the "childish rules" the thread starter criticised:

    RULES OF THE ROAD

    • Stay on-topic. Wanna talk about Futurama? Go to the General forum. Wanna discuss other shows? Head for "It's Got a TV!" Wanna just talk crap? Take it to Off-Topic.
    • This isn't a chatroom.  Wanna talk to just one person in particular? Use AIM or MSN Messenger, or just good-old E-mail.
    • Behave with respect for one another. Don't make me turn this message board around and go home!
    • No d0wnl0adz questions. I can't stress this enough.
    • Keep it legal. Don't try to sell your pyramid schemes or WaReZ here.
    • Stick to English. Not everyone understands Danish.
    Seems quite reasonable to me.

Me too, I agree with you but dont you think these people have a thread 'i.e this one' to give there rants rather than clogging up the board?

This might be a legitimate subject, but certainly not in the General forum.  Sounds more like an Off-topic thread to me.

It's not a bad idea, but doesn't "The Wish Void" exist for this purpose, or have I completely misunderstood the point of that forum?

Okay, copied and pated from the description of The Wish Void:

All your PEEL feature or settings related wishes, proposals and questions will find their home here. The Wish Void Board is free for everyone to post.

I think that that part of forum would be sutible for your needs.

Considering you've made exactly 5 posts on PEEL, all bellyaching about the rather sensible rules (which are laid out further up this thread), I'd say it's you who have a weird fixation with them.

Considering that you couldn’t go five minutes without posting that list of rules I’d have to disagree with you there, and although they seem quite reasonable to me too you know full well that list is far from complete, I see you conveniently left out the only ones I actually complained about: no double posting, no asking questions, no one word answers, no spelling mistakes.  Maybe  these are the unspoken rules, because I’ve seen people abused for doing all of these things.

That's it Calculon Sr, whinge about Teral!  It'll make us love you all the more!

@dawoodz - I appreciate your enthusiasm in opening this thread, but I think you'll find that on this board if someone wants to whine about their perceived mistreatment by other members, they'll just start a new thread without bothering to search for one that's already open.

First of all I can’t find you a line where it says that because as I’ve already said it is an unspoken rule. Secondly there is a difference between spelling mistakes and writing in slang, and it would take an idiot not to realise that, so crawl back into your shell and try to find some other fault with my post so that I can prove you wrong again and laugh at you some more!

Also it’s pathetically ironic that you defend the rule about spelling mistakes, misspelling “you’re” in the process.

And PCC Fred, all you have to do is scroll up to see that Teral is the one that started “whinging” about me, my post was in response to that so unless you’ve got something valid to add to this conversation, STOP SPAMMING!

Don’t poke your tongue out at me unless you intend to use it! What? It was a hell of a lot funnier than your post! Anyway I live in the UK, so if anyone else wants to take a bite I’ll have to respond tomorrow because it’s approaching 1:00 in the morning.

That's pretty ironic considering that my post is the only one in the last half dozen or so to actually respond to dawoods' original post.

As for not having anything valid to add to the conversation, so far I've read 9 of your 12 posts on PEEL.  7 of them have been complaints about PEEL rules, other PEELers or both.  The other two were complaints about another PEELers fan-forum.  Unless the three posts I haven't seen are of Dickensian quality, it's fair to say you haven't contributed too much to the board yourself.

"No double posting", and "No one word answers" may not be hard and fast rules, but they're PEEL etiquette, and everyone who's been here any length of time accepts them and sticks to them.  Some people have posted really classy one-word posts, but more often than not one-word posts are a crutch used by newbies to boost their post count by posting quick, cheap replies in as many threads as possible.

Finally, if you manage to stick around on PEEL as long as Teral or I have, you'll find that the phrase "STOP SPAMMING" carries more weight coming from an admin or moderator, than it does from an over-antagonistic newbie.  And if your future posts are anything like your efforts on this thread, expect to see the phrase a LOT.

Hmmm, I see PCC Fred beat me to the punch while I was typing.

I always figured those sorts of rules came from simple common-sense.  I don't know any message board that tolerates multiple-posting and one-word posts outside of a forum game.  Incidentally, I think you're mistaking "misspellings" for "chat-speak," or "complete butchering of the English language."  People here easily forgive mistyped words, so long as the poster's actually attempting to form a coherent sentence.

As for the "asking questions" bit: the reason so many "question" threads are closed is because the questions are usually redundant, and their answers can usually be found in an older thread.  Keeping specific topics limited to a handful of threads keeps the forums uncluttered and probably saves (an admitting minimal amount) of space on the servers.
