Heh. "Zoidbergs".

If she died then you couldn't have the stereotypical Jewish mother! Guh.

Who cares?  If it results in jokes, I'm all for continuity problems.

My theory about that is that generation of Zoidbergs hence Zoidberg's mother didn't die after mating.  My guess is, it probably depended on generations.  All the Zoidbergs who died in that episode were probably a younger generation.  Maybe the younger generation wasn't as resilent in mating as the older generation of Zoidbergs.

Oh well... Decapodians die while mating, which is true since "Why must I be a Crustatian it love". However that doesn't mean that either his uncle Zoidfarb, Herold Zoid or his aunt - where he grew up, what we know since "A Taste of Freedom".
From there we even know that they are dead:

to roll over in their graves!
found on imsdb.com

We also know that Dr. John Zoidberg is outraged when someone calls his mother a saint. He may know about that through delivered stories though.

If you need more info about that you may want to read existing threads of that:

1. Zoidberg's mother
2. Zoidbergs people

Just too add - his real mother may have died.  However, there must be some that didnt mate - just like zoidberg, because otherwise there would only be children, and they need leadership.  So, he was adopted.  Giving him a mother to roll over in the grave, and one that cant roll there yet

programs mess up all the time, you tell me how Buffy was brought back to life when they did a whole shpeel on how Dawn couldn't bring her Mom back to life because it was tampering with the "natural order of things." yes, buffy sacrificed herself in that weird lighted thingy but tell me this - is suicide not a natural part of life too?

also, back to futurama, what about in "The Sting" when the black box from the previous crew was found in the beehive, but in the pilot the professor got their chips from the contents of a space wasp? the writers basically admitted on commentary it was a goof...but um...in the future wasps and bees are probably the same, or something

and heh, i never thought about that. good one snot.

He was outraged in response to an accidental insult delivered by Fry, when he attempted to copy the sound Zoidberg made. Zoidberg's response, "What?!? My mother was a saint! Get out!!" implies that Fry must have inadvertantly slandered Zoidberg's mother.

More specific to the topic though, can someone remind me when Zoidy's mother appears on the show? I remember seeing someone who appeared to be more of an Aunt, but I can't remember a mother.

Anyway, it seems probable that if Zoidberg does have a living mother, she is his adoptive, rather than biological, mother (as Slackit said).

It's not a fuck up at all. Zoidberg's parents ARE dead, Zoidberg was raised by his Aunt, his mother was never in the show apart from the mention of his mother being a saint, and he said "WAS a saint" in the past tense, implying she was dead. It was actually very good continuity.
