Source.

As anyone who checks CGEF with any regularity likely knows, Variety magazine reports that Comedy Central is buying the cable syndication rights to Futurama when Cartoon Network/Turner's contract runs out at the end of 2007.  CC wants to put our show in a prime time spot, presumably to give the network a bit of repectability.  All I can say is that this is easily the best thing to happen to Futurama since [adult swim] picked it up, especially given the apparently massive amount of cash being exchanged in this deal.

In short: Good news, everyone.

One quibble though: Variety refers to Bender as a porn-addicted crackhead.  This is of course patently false.  First of all, he's a porn-addicted alcoholic.  Second of all, how could a robot be a crackhead?  They have neither noses nor veins.

Anyway...

EDIT: Did you just vigilante mod me, boy?  I've been telling people their threads were crap since before you even conceived of having the idea cross your mind of thinking about registering here.  This is news now.  It'll be olds by the time we get to 2008.

WooHoo!! Another not-important topic. Keep'em coming men. I would say 'sorry' but this info is irrelevant until at most another year.

Hey Nerdo...

welcome to last month. (it was on page 2)

@ H.G.Blob: Well... it may be irrelevant now that we know there was already one existing, however without that information given N-o-r thread was pretty well placed, and by far better than another game thread  ;).

There's already a thread talking about that.

So wait, how does TBS figure into all of this, will they still get to show it whenever they want still or will Comedy Central be the only ones able to broadcast it?

deltap42 welcome... but no syndication means whoever buys rights can show it whenever they want, i.e adultswim and cc will both be showing it

Curse you DoTheBartman!  *shakes fist*

Delta: TBS is owned by the same company as Cartoon Network, and therefore has the rights only as long as they do (until December 2007.)  Comedy Central will have exclusive rights to the show's cable broadcasts in '08, though they will apparently have the right to sublet the license out for their own profit; they might allow, for example, Spike TV to broadcast the show if the price is right.

Ahh, I see.  Thanks for the clarification, I just wish we could be talking about new episodes instead of re-runs.  If FOX doesnt own the rights to the show itself then why wouldnt another network offer him some $ to put the show back on the air on their station.  Can you imagine if the WB or someone would put it on the air and promoted the hell out of it and watch it do awesome. That would really be Futurama's ultimate revenge against FOX.

Well obviously it would still be the same show, it would just have a different logo in the corner, and I'd be willing to be that they would promote it alot better than Fox ever did.

That, and they dont have any football games on the WB to mess up the scheduling.

So long as it's the same Futurama we've grown to love, I'd watch it on C-SPAN!  :hmpf:

With my luck it would air on the Larry Flynt channel...  :(
