sarge, are you an animator?
I'd love to have that job, I'm 14 and I've been been doing animations since I was nine years old, so once I finish high school and university I'll have quite a bit of experience up my sleeve.    :D
no experience with flash though.   :(
meh, I'll probably give in to peer pressure eventually and learn it. but right now, I'd rather stick to doing hand drawn and 3d stuff.

(by the way, I'm still working on benders voice, I can't get it quite right yet. but almost there.)

morris, I see that your a man of many talents, anyway I could help write some storys. I can also draw a lot of the minor characters like the Crushinator, Angeline, Hypnotoad and Roberto. I can draw Bender from toltal memory but I can't draw Fry or Leela yet. Having said this I don't have a scanner at present but I should be getting one soon and will then post some of my fan art and storyboards.

yep I plan to keep at it for a long while yet.
and I just had an idea for what we could do for our episode.   :D
we could do an anthology of interest with the characters who didn't get to ask the what-if machine anything: amy, zoidberg. etc.
zoidberg, for example could ask "what if he was more assertive."
we don't have to do it, I just think it would be cool to feature some of the minor characters.

Dear Sarge,

What qualifications are needed to become an animator? Do you need A* and loads of good grades in acidemic subjects or do you just need talent?

Hi people!

No reply from me yesterday because of unexpected illness. I am unable to stay awake for any length of time and standing is difficult. :-( Therefore I'll keep this one quite short!

I quite like the idea of extending Anthology of Interest because they divide up so easily into smaller episodes -- of ten minutes or so, which is exactly what we're looking for! As a happy by-product, that story would probably be very person-oriented, reducing the animation requirements somewhat. In other words, let's try to avoid a space battle scene, please, unless you have thirty supercomputers, infinite patience, and a spare sixty years. :-)

As for pictures, a small thought... I suspect that hand-drawn characters will be harder to animate - they will need converting to vector graphics. Of course, the more fine detail, the higher the number of vectors, and the larger the filesize... I could be wrong. I dunno. My head hurts. :-)

Drawing talents are certainly INVALUABLE for storyboarding, but I don't know if hand-drawn characters will prove practical for animating. I still suspect it's easier to import existing drawings of characters into Flash and use those?

Morris: Your vocal talents will SAVE OUR BACON as far as I'm concerned! Don't panic if some voices aren't PERFECT - nothing else will be! :-) My basic plan is to record the dialogue last - so instead of animators animating to soundtrack, we can mix the soundtrack around the animation. So basically you would record the dialogue whilst watching the scene, sans sound. Then basically package it up, send it over here, and I'll sync it up. That sounds the easiest method, anyway, unless somebody has a better idea?

So here's hoping you've got a microphone, some kind of sound-recording software, and the capacity to encode MP3's! ;-)

And, I say again, THANKYOU THANKYOU!

I'll be back making more sense in a day or so. In the mean time, I'm going to BED for a VERY LONG TIME. :-)

Danny

PS. Still haven't got around to changing my username... Later, later, later... :-)

High school...show lots of talent.
College.....lots of Life Drawing & Design classes.
Real Life.....A once-in-a-blue-moon job-opening on a really good show.
That's how I did it. Animation is dying right now. Do something else in art.  :hmpf:

I have now put my Bender storyboards onto the fan art section of PEEL, so if you would like to see what I'm like at storyboarding then check them out, some feed back would be apreciated.

Thanx Otis.

You probably gotta know the right people (i.e. 'hookups') too when it comes to getting a good art career. Stuff like graphic design and computer animation is getting very competitive, and you will need more than a good portfolio to stay on your toes.

Another story idea:

A distant planet inhabited by robots (Fear of a Bot planet) are making a deadly computer virus, One by one, planets are being wiped, Professor Farnsworth realises that the sorrounding planets are being sabotaged by the virus and Earth will be soon unless the P.E Crew put a stop to it.

Zapp and Kiff also help and an intergalactic war breaks out against the robots. Bender refuses to help because he wants the robots to win so that Robots can be free and humans can do the dirty work, all of the robots on earth also want the robots to win and this causes tension between the Humans and the robots.

I can't think of an end, somebody else can...

Anyone wanna 'hookup' with me?
I'm not a big "professional" artist like Sarge, But my advice would be to learn to draw from LIFE and realistically as well as possible.  Because you can always take it down to a cartoon level, but if you can only draw cartoons you aren't going to be as desirable.  Also learn to say, "do you want fries with that?" and for the love of God, don't specialize if you can help it.  Most of the people that only did web design are now out of work.

Hi all,

Update time: Daniel Kennedy was kind enough to send me (by email) an audition of his Leela/Amy impression. They are indeed pretty realistic!

KENNEDY: You nearly gave me a heart attack with that 700kb email! ;-) Seriously, though, THANKYOU! You got Leela's bored, sarcastic tone pretty well dead on! Welcome aboard! And if you can do Flash animation, I'll buy you a beer!

Morris!: Glad you're still here, thought you'd disappeared! Are you still willing to help out? Do you have a mike? Would you be willing to submit a short audition? Can you do it as MP3, pleeeeeeeeeeease!! ;-)

FrysGIRL: only as far as the thread... We may have voices (Morris/Kennedy/Me); we have a storyboarder (take a bow, Mr Jivefunk,) we have a composer (me,) but what we don't have is an animator! So basically we're still buggered. But we're much closer than we were, and I think we're all beginning to see how this could work out. Things are certainly looking rosier than at the beginning of this thread, where "Stupid idea," "Sod it," and "Unworkable" were often-used phrases! ;-)

Hopefully some s**t-hot Flash animator will appear out of nowhere and our prayers will be answered.

In the mean time, keep this thread alive!

And...

THANKYOU everybody for your contributions so far!

Futurama aside, I've at last recovered from my illness -- don't know what it was, but at least it's gone. I was getting seriously worried at one point last week because I couldn't stop shaking and I was making a right arse of myself... But that stopped thank God, and after hasty consumption of some strange orange pills from the chemist, reality slowly faded back into view... One more exam next week and I'll be finished for the term so I can sleep easy again!

See y'all later :-)

[EDIT: The pictures aren't working. Bugger. What the hell is wrong now? Right click/download them if all else fails. The links are correct.]

Hi people!

Here's the limit of my artistic talents, just to give you all a laugh...

***

Yes, Flash costs -- A LOT unfortunately. But there are other ways of doing this, of course -- I'm discounting the paper/paint method on the grounds that whoever was doing it would go INSANE.

***

FrysGIRL, you have a real talent for doodling. If only MY physics notes looked that interesting. All I managed was a picture of my physics teacher (Pete Halford if you're out there) being beaten up by Einstein. :-)

Since you (FrysGIRL) disappeared for a couple of weeks, Otis P Jivefunk got hired as storyboarder - he's invented some promising storylines and also had some Bender storylines (for another project, I believe) in the FanArt section that are pretty good.

I really wish we could use more DRAWING talent in the actual animation, but you know what that means! (And so does Sarge!) (As I've mentioned, scan-art would be easier to animate for technical reasons.)

How about a spoof-cinematic promotion poster design? Would be more interesting than "Hello, please watch our film."?

Or to put it another way, "How to use talented artists?"

***

Morris, still here?

***

KENNEDY, if Morris doesn't reappear you'll probably end up voicing everybody! :-) Would you be able to send along some samples of your other-characters?

***

My head hurts. I'm going to bed.

Remember, the Bender picture is copyright! I wouldn't want anybody confusing it with the real thing.

I would be glad to help out with something... Hmm, I'm not animator but there must be something I could do. Maybe some other voice that we haven't seen before (im not really good at making any of the main characters voices). Just tell me what you need, besides an animator   :flirt:

Edit: I might be able to make some ok drawings (not computer...). But I'd be happy to do more  ;)
I will not be able to work 24/7, if you know what I mean. Lot of homework and school things to take care of

Sorry for the triple postings over here  ;) I'm just too lazy to edit my old messages.

I was just gonna tell you that I've got a Vocoder ( not a professional one though ). A Vococder is a machine/computer-program/instrument that can make your voice sound like an instrument ( example; A piano, synth, guitar or harmonica. Of course you can use any instrument you like... ), and also go with the rythm an melody of the instrument. I other words, You can make your voice sound like an old-fashioned robot-voice.
I can send you a (moderate) sample Danny.

Hey all! :-)

TheReal-Fry, I've got a similar program! I've spent hours playing about with it, it's a lot of fun! :-)

Great, great, great! Yes, let's decide on some storys. I haven't been pushing it we still don't have an animator... But there's no harm in getting ready.

Please see up the thread for some of Otis' great story suggestions, or feel free to suggest something else. Bare in mind these will be SHORTS -- no more than about 10 minutes per episode! :-) (And I don't count on doing very many episodes a week!!!! ;-)

Pleeeeeeeeeeease will some kind animator step in and save the day!

You won't get any money but you'll get a lot of thanks! :-)

Doesn't even have to be Flash animation -- anything that animates, and is quick will be considered.

Morris, where's my sample? ;-)

Kennedy, would you be so kind as to send through some of your other voices? Thanks!

Cheers all, back tomorrow

Danny
