Futurama X-Mas DVD rumor
According to an Essex Futurama fan that goes by the name Jamie, there will be a Futurama X-Mas themed DVD out near the end of the year. He works at blockbuster, and it lists "Futurama at Christmas" as an upcoming release.

No official word on this. There's really no info at all about it. But it sounds like a decent enough idea, no? Fox had announced something like this to happen many years ago, before the seasonal DVDs were released. So maybe they're finally going to follow through with the idea.

I searched this on Blockbuster, only the four season DVDs and the Robot Maniac came up, and Google, the only thing coming up was that story.

Also, mcl, it's probally going to only be the two Xmas episodes and bonus features. If there was to be a new episode on there, we would've heard it already from a PEELer or from Rough Draft. So far, I'm only 30% believing this.

If it's a Christmas/Xmas themed Futurama DVD, it'll only have Xmas Story and Tale of Two Santas. They're only going to put Christmas/Xmas themed episodes on a Christmas/Xmas themed DVD.

I'm thinking it will be a futurama holiday collection, the two x-mas eps, love and rockets (valentines day), mother's day, a taste of freedom (fourth of july), the honking (halloween). ect...

Not neccesarily.  Often, if a show has only one or two episodes that fit a "theme" for a "best of" type disc, the company will just randomly select another couple episodes, or maybe find some episode that features the theme in some smaller way.  A good example would be the best of Simpsons discs; "Bart Wars", out of four episodes, only has one episode featuring any Star Wars at all.  One of the Christmas ones was padded with some episodes that mention Christmas in passing.  My guess is that for this one, they'll probably pick a couple random and popular extra episodes that also wouldn't fit into any other theme sets they might decide to do.

Anyway, this sudden milking of the show on dvd would be annoying if it wasn't so encouraging.  Fox really seems to have been pleased with the four sets and seems to want to get more money out of the show in any way they can.  That can only be a good sign for these dvd movies.

I think they'd have at most 6 episodes on a DVD, probally less. I'd say 5 episodes would be the amount. Also, don't forget Put Your Head on My Shoulders is a Valentine's themed episode.

If the same is the case with Futurama then The Farnsworth Parabox will probably be on this release; "Tangled-up Christmas tree lights!"

If it's true that another DVD is coming out then that must mean the sales of the Manic Robot set must have been really good. Hopefully that is all the more reason for these new movies to be made.

My guess is it's just going to be 2 episodes: X-Mas Story and The Tale of Two Santas.  Unfortunately, those are the only two Christmas episodes of Futurama.

If the show went on, there probably would've been more Christmas episodes.

I'm not really believing it. First, we would've heard about this a few months ago. Second, the DVD listed infront of it is "Jerry Springer: The Opera".

I'll wait until FOX, a 'Futurama' representative (Billy West, John DiMaggio, David X. Cohen, Matt Groening, etc...), or <futufan> confirms this.

I once saw a billboard advertising him coming to sing somewhere.  Scary but true.  So I believe it.  In fact a quick Amazon search reveals that there's already an audio CD with that title.  (Springer's also a commentator on "Air America" too....I'm pretty liberal, but YIKES)

OH, and it's usually roughly around summer and early fall when we usually hear about holiday dvds, as they have to plan them in advance obviously, as well as usually release them around November or even earlier to fully capitalize on the season.

Hmmm, I think it might be a tad late for a new Christmas DVD to be issued by this December. Doesnt matter if it's a new episode or just the two previous Xmas episodes, they couldnt do it for Christmas 05'. Maybe next year...

Why would it be too late?  They just announce it now/soonish, and then release it around November.  These small compilations are made pretty quickly.

Jerry Springer: The Opera is something that's been running in theatres you fool.
David Soul (The dude from Starsky & Hutch) plays Jerry Springer and it got lots of controversey.
It is a real thing, not a joke.

I reported this freaking thing in the first place, it is a report on what Fox is releasing in the 4th quarter of this year, this would have been titles listed by Fox at some point, I can't see why they would have just made up a title to add to the list, so we can safely assume this DVD is being planned.
Whether it does get released in the end or not is yet to be seen.

Jerry Springer: The Opera has been in very few theaters over here in the US, so I haven't ever heard of it. To me, it sounded like some independent film that some college students threw together.

Also, this is Fox. The company that placed Futurama at the slot that it would get delayed by the NFL. For me, I need actual confirmation from Fox or from Matt or David. I've searched this thing many times on Google, Ask, and Yahoo and nothing at all has come up.

More than likely it's planned, but there won't be any official announcements until FOX sees how the "Monster Robot" DVD sells in August here in the U.S.  If it tanks (knock on wood), then no more DVDs and no new Futurama movie.  As I said on a post on CGEF, it's only $10, so buy two and give one to a friend who you think would enjoy it but never really got into the show during it's run.  The more DVDs sold, the better for everyone who loves Futurama.

Also, I'll bet on the Christmas DVD they go the Southpark route and add one or two other random "Special Bonus" episodes that don't lend themselves well to future "theme" DVDs, like "The Bird-bot of Ice-catraz" or "Where the Buggalo Roam".

Maybe I'm missing something, but couldn't that be the movie? I mean, we have no idea what the movies about, and right after we heard about it a mysterious DVD called "Futurama at Christmas" has been suddenly scheduelled for November. Also, since when do they advertise tv show compilation discs in magazines like that? Sure, it's soon, but if the animators get off their lazy asses.....

Seriously, it's very unlikely that this (officially unannounced) DVD is the movie. Don't forget it takes about 9 months to produce a regular episode of Futurama but one that only lasts about 23 minutes. A movie would have to be at least 90 minutes long to have anything decent in it. Groening and Cohen said right at the beginning that they'd like to do a trilogy some day so they probably have the basic storyline mapped out already. Beyond that, there's no way they could write a full script, schedule all of the voice actors and any guest actors, animate it, package it and release it around the globe in the next four months.
