Well, despite all, I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic.  Until we hear something from Matt, David or FOX stating that it is an absolute certainty, and it's in production, there's still a chance it won't happen.  I'm still much more optimistic than pessimistic, but I want to keep an element of realism just in case it doesn't happen.

I'll say it again... Even though Billy says it's going ahead, my source (David X.) says it's not that far yet. As far as I can see, Groening himself said something about Futurama on the Comicon, but I don't have the actual words yet.

That's the greatest sign yet, I'm beginning to believe more and more...

But just think, if theyy release a movie, not only will we have a movie, but they might make new merchandise like posters and stuff.

That's a really long ways away if it's true. Nearly ten years since the show it's self aired by that time. But who's complaining... hope it IS true.

There's actually an entire forum about the movie on that site. I signed up, sifted through a bunch of retarded posts via a hideous interface where you have to click on each individual reply to read it... and finally found this:

Anyway, it looks like although there is finally a page on imdb.com for this Futurama movie, it still hasn't been confirmed. Hopefully, it will happen, since we would all be sorely disappointed if it didn't, wouldn't we?

Nice find though, it's interesting to get a 2007 release date. That sounds realistic  :).

Not really. The average CGI movie nowadays takes 3 years to complete, and digital 2D animation takes less time although pre-animation stuff (writing, storyboarding etc.) is somewhat constant. But early or late 2007? We can only wonder. I just hope it doesn't get canned in 2006, personally...

Well Futurama isn't ENTIRELY made up of CGI so it would make sense that it didn't take as long as a regular CGI movie.

I'd say 2007 is reasonable (even though I want it now now now!!!!!).  The Simpsons movie (which I think has already been officially announced - correct me if I'm wrong) is scheduled to come out in 2008 according to the imdb.  And I assume they're gonna stick with the traditional format and not use any CGI for that one.

The 2008 date for The Simpsons is just an estimate.  They are working on it, the date itself is just based on offhand comments from the staff I think, like "yeah, it's possible it'll be out in two or three years".  But there isn't a set year for it yet, and they're evidentally taking their time with it to try and get it right.

I think the 2007 guess for Futurama is probably an estimate too; a reasonable one, but just an estimate/guess nonetheless (2006 would be doubtful unless they started working on it now basically, and apparently they're still just talking...).  So it's probably not worth speculating based on IMDB, because they pretty much have the same info we do.

OMfriggin'G this is awesome.  IMDB knows all...with their endorsement, my cynicism has been washed away, leaving only emotional defensiveness in the way of my utter fanboyish glee.

This is the closest we've ever been, fellow PEELers.  Let's be thankful for that, and hopeful for more.

You always dream this day will come and then when it does, you don't know what to say.
This movie thing it just seems too good to be true, usually if something is too good to be true, it's not true... But how can it not be true now? It is all but confirmed.... gah... so... tense... need answers...
I think we need to get out as much positive reaction to this news as possible, because Fox would see it as a good sign to go ahead with the movie... gah, I don't have a clue what i'm talking about... um, carry on.

Possibly, but there's still so little info on it right now, it may be worth waiting it out till more news comes before putting it on CGEF. That's what makes sense to me...

To JDB: Well.. if they manage to get together some of the old writers, I wouldn't be very worried about that, but I can't help but think of that myself. Before, they had to think of stories to keep a viewer occupied for about half an hour... so of course, there might be a few stretches in the course of the storyline.
But, still.. I'm not worried.

Well... members submit information which then has to be verified by their staff, I guess it depends on how much verification they need. Maybe quotes from TV Guide and/or Billy West would be enough?

When it's announced by DXC or MG that it's been given the green light I'll believe it but until then I'll remain sceptical cautiously optimistic.

I... want to believe (to quote that sign about aliens).

Oh what the hey, if N-o-r can gad about in fanboyish glee surely that's good enough for me to squeal like a vapid teenaged girl learning that the Backstreet Boys are coming to visit.

(Disclaimer: By using the phrase vapid teenaged girl I do not mean to imply that all vapid people are teenagers or teenaged girls or that all girls are vapid or are Backstreet fans or anything else that might possibly be construed as offensive. Thank you.)

Wheeehoooo!
I believe it now. The cynicism ship has sailed on me and I'm partying on the dock baby! I hope I don't get pushed into the icy waters of disappointment though...

Matt Groening has confirmed it, I don't know why the community is practically ignoring the news , I expected several frantic movie threads to come out on this page.

There are those who said this day would never come; what are they to say now? I'd like to take the time to recognize the people like Ragedump who fought tooth and nail to make us look not only wrong, but stupid to believe the most successful canceled show would ever come back. Some how, I told you so just doesn't cut it.
