I checked out the new animated movie Robots this weekend and couldn't stop thinking about how cool it would have been if Bender made a cameo in it somewhere (being that it was a Fox movie and all). All cynicism regarding Fox's mistreatment of Futurama in general aside, would it not have been cool to see our lovable ol' bot show up on the bigscreen all 3D animated and such? Oh well ... just a thought.

Yes it would be cool to see futurama characters back in any way shape or form!

And considering Robin William's character was named "Fender", yeah I wish he was in it too...

Yeah, but knowing FOX, they would never give Futurama fans the benefit.

Im supprised Matt couldnt have a go at Fox for the use of the name Fender, but then i spose the one in Robots looks nothing like Fender from Futurama. An i guess it wouldnt get far anyway.

Yeah, even though Fender was a kleptomaniac, too. Coincidence? Or not?  :nono:

I thought the Fender/Fender/Bender thing also. It's probally just a coincidence. PROBALLY.

Y'know, up until I read this thread, I hadn't made the connection between Fox and this movie and our beloved Futurama. Though I know CGI is very different from cel or digital animation, Futurama had its share of CGI, so perhaps some animators from Fox worked on both. We should check the credits to see if it was the same studio. Of course, animators don't get to make big decisions, so even if someone from the Futurama team worked on the movie, they wouldn't have been able to orchestrate a Bender cameo, I don't suppose. -_-;;

I'm actually surprised that R2-D2 didn't pop up in it somewhere as well.

Oddly enough they had a robot that resembled the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz (is he technically a robot?!?), but that's about the only one that I saw.

The Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz is not a robot at all, but a tin man, as his name says. And I saw these large robots that kinda reminded me of Hedonism(sp) Bot without his lounging bed or the fat robot, whose name I think is Fat Robot. So that would have probally been as close as it got to a Futurama or any kind of other movie/TV robot cameo, unless somebody saw something I didn't.

I didnt like the movie very much. I thought a bugs life was much funnier, but thats probly cuz I think david foley is hot. And no I dont think it is a coincidence. I mean, a klepto robot with a ryming name, in a movie produced by the same company? come on

I wonder how many people went to see the film thinking, "I hope [insert iconic robot] will make a cameo"?

I'm having momentary cerebral flatulence. Why would they sue? Who's Cappy? (Not the one from the movie, I know which one that was...)   :hmpf:

Did anyone notice in the preview for "Robots" Fender cheers and puts his names up in joy and the fall off? Coincidence? He even makes that little "aow!".

Cappy is TheMadCapper's nickname.  At least, that's what I call him.

Aha. I thought I'd missed a Futurama mention, which would have been terribly mortifying. Thanks for clearing that up.

It's my fault for assuming that everyone would know who TMC is.  Anyway, he isn't a robot (or a hamster), so it's probably just a coincidence.  Probably.

On the internet, one never knows. >_> He could be a robot hamster...

At any rate, when the DVD for Robots comes out, perhaps someone on the extras might mention about iconic robot cameos, and why they opted to avoid them. It might be a money issue. Didn't somebody say (on a Futurama commentary) that every time they use a jingle, they have to pay up?
