A: Since there's already a robot, an alien, a guy from the past, a mutant, an old guy, a young gal, and a rastafarian (toally a unique race/type unto itself), the only possible character left would be a head-in-a-jar, and probably a female one, given the current male-to-female ratio. 

New character:  "Betty"
A middle-aged, lower-income woman who won the state lottery, but on the same day, had a serious cross-town tube accident wherein her body was damaged beyond repair.  Luckily, with the money from the lottery, she was able to pay for the expensive Popeil-patented process of preparing her head for the head-in-a-jar technology. 

She's sassy, smarter than Fry, and a money grubber.  Jokes around her character usually involve her transition from poor whole-bodied person to rich head-in-jar person.  She often acts like a poor person, even though she's quite well-off.
