I was listening to the radio 1 while I was washing up my dishes and they were doing this prank phone call using Mr. Miyagi from a scene from The Karate Kid. It was pretty funny. After the prank they said that they going to use Bender from Futurama for their next pranks on Monday around about 4pm. I have to look out for that.

Nah, i think they'll use an impersonator, that way they can say exactly what they want, including specific names and such.

It may not have aired yet. I wouldn't know. I don't live in the U.K. I'm stuck in the non-sunken city of Atlanta. If Star 94 (an ATL station) did anything Futurama-related, I think I might die of shock.

Yeah I think you right. I don’t think that they going to play Bender as their prank phone call. I just e-mailed the DJ to find out what’s going on.

Edit: I think the DJ must have got my e-mail because he that they do Bender in a few days. They did Mrs Doughtfire instead and it was funny.

Were I live in Vermont not UK (in the small town island of Grand Isle.) Some times Star92.9 play Simpsons voices and on rare occasion Bender but it last for max of 3 seconds. But any way that means no Bender *sniff*.

T-Veronica - Star 94 does have a Bender clip when they introduce it or something. He says "All crap". Plus one of the weekend DJs is named "Bender". You can die of shock now :p I've been listening to Q100 ever since they put Nudge on the air, so they might have taken off the sound clip, but the DJ should still be there.

The Bender prank call had me in hysterics. I nearly fell over laughing. "So it's a cake you want?" Heh heh.

Woman: Can I have your number?

Woman: Can I have your number?
Bender: Make a woman out of me.

That is so funny. I hope they do another one. I wish they'd do that here. But no, instead of Bender it's a little girl calling the fire station. So sad... :nono:

You could always do your own prank calls...

Sound clips can be downloaded from the Can't-Get-Enough-Futurama site. You could go super lo-tech and just play the clips from your computer speakers into your phone receiver. I would suggest having a browser window open with a list of the sound clips, each of which is entitled with what bender (or whoever) says in the clip. Also, ensure that your sound player won't popup and cover the clip file list. Otherwise you might not be able to produce timely responses.

The hi-tech method would be to acquire a phone with a headset/microphone input. I believe you should be able to patch your PC directly into one of these jacks, but I could be wrong. Make sure you also have a headset (with microphone removed) or headphones so that you can hear the conversation without making any noise yourself.
You might also need a splitter.

I'd recommend that you pratice at calling up an appropriate sound clip in response to what people say. Maybe ask a friend or loved one to pretend that they are answering a call, and see how quickly you can come up with an appropriate sound clip answer to each prompt.

Also, it's probably a good idea to call a business, rather than residence. It's been my experience that people at home will hang up very readily, whereas a receptionist at a business is paid to put up with crap from the public... bonus for you!

Also, why limit yourself to Bender? A Zoidberg prank would probably be even funnier.

Anyone else with some suggestions on how to do this well?

I knew about the DJ named Bender, my mom and I always crack up when he introduces himself...we're such losers. ^_^
Never heard the sound clip, though. (And what, you don't like Nudge's "Hot Mom Check-in"?!) *sarcasm* What what!

I wanted to burn this onto a CD, so that my friend (who's also a big Futurama fan) could hear it. But, when I try to control-click (I've got a Mac) and download it, it never downloads. Whaddu I do?

The fact she stayed on the phone for so long is amazing really. I probably would have hung up after like 10 or so seconds.
