I found the following information at the TV TOME website for 'The Simpsons'. In the section for Season 10 it had the following 'note' under the "Maximum Homerdrive" episode:

"Matt Groening's new primetime cartoon "Futurama" premiered immediately after this episode, and became the first show to air at 8:30 after "The Simpsons" to get more viewers than "The Simpsons". This feat was done again the next week, and then Futurama moved to Tuesday, and since then no show airing after "The Simpsons" at 8:30 has gotten more viewers."

If 'Futurama' had started off with such great ratings then why did FOX not take advantage of this and promote the show more and why did it change it's timeslot??

Doesn't make sense why they would sabotage a show that looked like it would have a promosing run from it's beginning.

Thoughts?

Fox are bastards who should be killed. I, personally would like to rip thier eyes out with a rusty grapefruit spoon and fuck the bloody eye socket until my penis pierces their cerebellum, causing them to go into wild convoltions and die.

Edit: Sorry, the Slipknot must be effecting me. Oh, that reminds me, I have to go take my medicine!

Fox didnt understand the show and they dont like it because they didnt have creative control. They cant stand that something was awesome and they werent responsible for it. So they burried it and waited for it to die a slow 4 year death

great, another "let's bitch about fox" thread.  If there isn't one already there should be just one anti-fox thread were lunatics like wooter can go to vent.

i think rather than an anti fox thread, we'd need an anti-fox BOARD.

anyways, yeah. fox is just a bunch of asholes. no one can explain anything they did, besides that they just plain out hated the show.

In this case I don't think the move to Tuesday had anything to do with them "hating" the show (though of course much of the treatment of it later did, don't get me wrong).

The first two Sunday airings were originally only intended to be temporary, to get the show off on a good start (putting it after "The Simpsons", they could guarantee a big audience, which would hopefully follow the show once they moved it to Tuesday, which was the plan all along).  I think the initial plan was to start "Family Guy" on Sundays after The Simpsons right after Futurama finished its first two showings.

By the second season, it was clear that Tuesday showings just weren't bringing the same ratings, so I think Futurama actually got moved back there for a short while before moving back to Tuesday again (I think Family Guy also moved back to Sundays briefly, but then I think moved back to Tuesdays again before getting cancelled).  At that point Fox had already lost their chance on Futurama and were sick of it, so it got moved an hour before The Simpsons for its third season, and the rest is history.
