I just learned that the main characters salary is $250,000 per episode, for six hours work. The showing is sucking and they get more.....

As the end is near (maybe a year or two) what will replace the Simpsons? Im thinking, unfortunately that Simpsons-clone - Family Guy. Though in the illogical part of my mind, I would hope that Fox would atleast experiment with the eight o'clock time slot and maybe retry Futurama for a while.

Though it looks like we shall get more of the same when the Simpsons finally retire with Family Guy. As Fry said,

"You see? TV audiences don't want anything original. They wanna see the same thing they've seen a thousand times before."

Matt Groening has recently signed the cast to a deal for making episodes to season 19 and he said that he wants to do just one more season after that so season 20 will be the last in 2009.

P.S. Does anyone know what coerced Maggie Roswell to return to the cast?

At this point its possible for The Simpsons to go to season twenty (or beyond?  But I think they'll voluntarily stop it after 20 if it even goes that long), and thus, it actually could theoretically outlast the "Family Guy" comeback anyway, depending on how long they keep that going.  EDIT: Though, by the way, I should point out that that article above is misleading.  Fox did presumably extend the contract with the voice actors to season 18 (19 might be a stretch, I'm not sure if that's true) I think, but that's purely on an "if" basis; meaning, if they decide to go that far at all.  Its just securing the cast just in case.

However, depending on how the comeback goes (and how well FG establishes itself in whatever slot it gets) I guess it could take that slot.  If "Arrested Development" picks up enough and lasts long enough I guess it could go there too.  I'd say "American Dad" was a possibility but to be honest I think its going to get cancelled pretty quickly.

Other then that, I really have no idea....there really is no predicting when The Simpsons will end and there isn't even really an ending in sight yet.  All I can say is that the day The Simpsons ends is the day I quit watching Fox (unless Futurama makes a comeback, but at this point I really doubt that, at least as a tv show).

Matt Groening said in that above article link I posted that he wants Season 20 to be the last season.

This should really belong in the TV section, right?

Well, since Sunday's a family night, I say more Malcolm in the Middle till you puke it out your eyes. Or something. I work Sunday nights anyway.

^Yeah, it should go in the TV Section. And I doubt FOX will bring 'Futurama' back. As time goes on, and with the new shows they keep airing, the chances get slimmer and slimmer.

But if 'Family Guy' does well, then it will probably take that timeslot.

It's a shame that Family Guy could be taking the Simpsons slot.  Don't get me wrong, I like FG, but it's not anything really new.  Futurama would be so much better for the spot, or at least something new and original.  Like Matt Groening said about Futurama: "It's just like the Simpsons (was)* - new and original."

*I added that to show my own opinion.**
