Punctuation and grammar are useful for communication, as it actually helps people understand what you're trying to say.
Case in point: your post, and the mass of confused responses.
In any case, while America still exists, it isn't an independent nation anymore. It could be a state, or it could just be a region that still goes under the name America, the show never makes it clear. Earth has a single government, and all parts of the world are under it's control. Freedom Day is more like your Forth of July than Thanksgiving, though if it's commemorating any particular event in history, we never find out.
If, hypothetically, the show DID do a Thanksgiving episode, it would probably be about something else entirely to the original holiday, or would just simply miss the point of the day.
