Is Zoidberg of Hebrew descent ? The name "Zoidberg" brings to mind Jewish ethnicity as does Uncle Harold's dropping of the last syllable for his stage name. (Actors in the Golden Age of Hollywood often Anglicised their Hebrew last names - partly to escape anti-Semitism but also to make their last name a little less cumbersome). When Fry is dating Umbriel in the Lost City of Atlanta, Zoidberg invites him to visit his nearby home; the Colonel shakes his head to indicate his disapproval of the idea and Fry tells Zoidberg, "Sorry, Zoidberg but I'm trying to join the country club." Clearly, this is a reference to the exclusion of Jews from country clubs in the Deep South (a practice that is probably not entirely extinct). On the other hand, Cousin Zoidfarb sends Zoidberg a Christmas card and Zoidberg is helping decorate for Christmas. Also, why do all the male inhabitants of Zoidberg's planet sound as if they grew up in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn but the females speak without accent ?

Crown Heights. There are a few older females who speak with a Yiddish twang from Zoidbergs' planet. They certainly developed Zoidys' character perfectly to resemble a kind of Jewish New Yorker. And I love it.  :)

maybe jews are allowed to celebrate X-mas since the whole point is about presents and Santa and has nothing to do with Jesus.  Thats also part of the "biting social commentary/humor" of the "x-mas" "gag"

As I've said before, if a hideous stinking monster could be Jewish, it would be Zoidberg

Zoidberg's definitely Jewish in some character traits, but he's also got a lot of other characteristics that make him the spiffy fellow he is. Obviously not Jewish in faith.

Zoidberg & his planet are not Jewish, they just resemble the culture to a 't'.

Guinea pig - definitely not. It was raw meat with the blood still in it. The rest... I think it'd be okay, unless there's more kosher laws I don't know about.

Ask Kryten, ok?

Guinea pigs are rodents, and rodents are definitely not kosher. Ravioli... if it's cheese ravioli, it can't have any meat in it, and vice versa. Boots... looks like Leela wears synthetics, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I went to a Jewish Bar Mitzvah (spelling?) in New York during October. I realized how hard it must be to stay Kosher, because I hated a lot of what was being served (I am not a fish fan, and there was lots of salmon). Soup was good though.

Also: is dogfood Kosher? probably depends on the brand/type. What about eating his own kind (Whos the big man now Vinnie?).

correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't shellfish considered non-kosher?  since zoidberg is a lobster, that would mean that he is not kosher. but only if he ever wanted to take a bite out of himself, right? ok nevermind, i don't know what i'm talking about.

Naw, bender r. - makes sense....human flesh wouldn't be kosher either. Ya don't have to be kosher to keep kosher.

Zoidberg represents a type of Jewish community, yet everything about his species is non-Kosher. (He has cloven hooves.) It's a writers' paradise.
