In "TDHAIP" according to her deal with the robot devil, she had to marry him in return for the ability to hear. She didn't marry him because Fry got his hands back, what does this say about Leela's deal? Did the devil take away her robotic ears? If so are you meant to think she remained deaf and decided to tell Fry to keep playing anyway?

The Robot Devil made that deal with Leela so that Fry would give him back his hands...that was what he ultimately wanted, so I'm sure Leela got her hearing back. He had no reason to carry out that other deal.

How could she have? There really couldn't have been any of camera stuff in such a short allotted time.

At the end of "The Cryonic Woman" Fry was dumped out of the PE ship somewhere over L.A.
In "Why Must I Be A Crustacean in Love?" a lump peice of body falls, which we can assume is Fry's head.
So I think it's the same in your question ShortRoundMcfly.

Can you clarify? I couldn't really understand that, but I think you were trying to mock the fact that assumed she was deaf. I am merely trying to examine this from a new angle. I never really thought of whether or not she had gotten her hearing back. Maybe the writers meant to make us assume Fry lacks the capacity to play music and Leela cannot hear it?

Leela gets her hearing back.  Here's why:

From "Hell is Other Robots" it's established that the Robot Devil's purpose is to torture those condemned to Robot Hell, e.g. Bender.

However the RD caused Leela's deafness through his deal with Bender, as part of his plan to get his hands back off Fry.  Since Leela had done nothing to deserve that, once the RD got his hands back he had to restore Leela's hearing as a way of "balancing the books", as per some clause in the Fairness of Hell Act.

Fred's probably right.

You can tell because Calculon's ears are gone in the end, but she still says that she wants to hear how it ends.

Wait...his head?  Heh, I must have a dirty mind because I always though it was from....ya know, down there....

But anyways, agreed.  In a show like this, its just basically assumed that things will be more or less back to square one by next episode, so had there been a 5ACV01 Leela would have had her hearing back in it.

Calcuon's ears are gone at the end of the episode so we know that Leela's hearing has been restored. Also she said to Fry that she wants to hear the rest of the opera.

I don't think "cartoon" inheritely means its unrealistic or without explanation.  I better way to phrase it might be "sciece fiction comedy".  And this is, after all, one of the craziest comedies on television.

I never noticed Calculon's ears are gone at the end...  I had figured since it's the future, it's probably easy to restore such things.  Fry got new hands after the T-rex ate 'em in one ep.  Leela just didn't get her hearing fixed because the opera was taking place shortly after the incident, maybe?  Not being there would have made Fry upset.

The comics aren't canon.

But yeah, Fred pretty much covered everythin nicely.

Beelzebot is able to make a hand-transplant operation in less than 2 seconds, it would only take him a few seconds to restore Leela's hearing.

I would think if the Robot Devil didn't restore her hearing that Adlai could probebly do so.

At post below...
Yeah that's true.

Well then how did the Robot Devil return her hearing? He couldn't have done it by magic, as it seems he is more literal then the real devil and does everything in a conventional manner.

If he could take Leela's hearing away he could give it back.

He took it away with an Air horn, not some reversible spell.

Well usually one blow of an air horn wouldn't make you deaf, so he must have been able to create a pretty powerful air horn...and if he could take Calculon's robotic ears and make them work on Leela and give his own robotic hands to Fry and have them work, I'm sure he could somehow restore her hearing. He could probably take another human's ears or a different robot's who doesn't have long yellow ones.

Why do you keep saying that when the ad/PR for Futurama Adventures said they were the official continuation of the show?

Oh come on, John. Ad agencies will say just about anything if they think it will help increase sales. Untill either Groening or Cohen officially announce, in so many words, that the comics are canon I'll regard them as the opposite.

Plus it helps explain away a long string of contradictions.

Whether they're canon or not has no affect on my ability to enjoy them.

Finally, how can they be the continuation of the shows when the first issues started long before the show was even cancelled?

Well, it was cancelled ages ago remember? They new it was getting cancelled like three years in advanced.

No, they knew FOX wasn't behind it 100%, they didn't really know anything about being cancelled until January 2002, when the hiatus was announced.

The first comic was released in November 2000, by January 2002 they had reached issue 7.

Anyway, back to Leela's deafness.... yeah, I got nothing.

Don't forget this is 1000 years in the future.  If medical science has reached the point that even Zoidberg can reattach Fry's head and body, it should be simple enough for the Robot Devil to restore Leela's hearing.  I'm gonna say nanites.

Huzzah for Jicannon - solving it with math, physics, and physiology!  Really, though, that is a viable excuse ... the Robot Devil is certainly smart enough to be able to calculate exactly how many decibles it would require to only deafen Leela for a short period of time ... up until about the end of the opera.

The science fiction explanation, because others are so stuck on it: Calculon's ears have healing abilities.  After all, he's been everything else!
