It started late in Volume 2, pervaded Volume 3, and I can't get through more than half an episode in Volume 4 now. Why does David Cohen seem to think he's the reason for the audio commentary track? I just loved the commentary on Volume 1 and most of 2, where we get to hear Maurice LaMarche and John DiMaggio and the amazing Billy West and, incidentally, the brains behind the whole thing, Matt Groening. I just watched most of "Leela's Homeworld" and I must say that Cohen's lines like "oh no, she's mutated!" and other idiotic joke explanations, along with his, no offense intended, WAY over-the-top obsessive-geek-fan tripe make me want to chuck a shoe through my TV. I had a much better time listening to Billy West explain the origins of his Zoidberg voice than listening to Cohen drone inaccurately about how you can't tell how long a computer program will run. WGAS? Not I. Thank you for the soapbox.

Maurice LaMarche was in the season 1+2 commentaries now?

Regardless, my rebuttal: DXC is groovy.

yes, I dont think the quality of the commentaries has faded at all.

I still find the Season4 ones just as good as the one's from the first season.

I would agree (meaning the commentaries are great).  I actually generally prefer hearing the crew of the show over the actors.  Of course that IS a general comment, I also enjoy the actors immensely.  But I find learning about the jokes I didn't catch (sorry, but I'm not a computer science major) or the little bits about how they did this shot or that shot or whatever is really interesting, and David Cohen gives great insight into those things in my opinion.

if i hadnt watched the commentaries which explained the C64 programming jokes i wouldn't have gotten them at all, and also DXC points out a lot of background jokes that i would have other wise missed even in S4

"I cast thee out!" DXC is probably the third best guy on the commentaries (behind Billy and a tie between John and Maurice). He's always got something interesting to say, and I learn a lot from him.

I don't mind hearing DXC on the commentaries, even though there's very few jokes I didn't get straight away. His nerdy voice has it's certain charm. And generally the Season 4 commentary was as good as it's always been.

yeah his nerdy voice is quite endearing and it builds a sort of 'affection' for him and i agree with MOle with the exception of a couple of commentaries in S4 which werent up to scratch though that was mainly to the commentary personalities sitting back and having a good chuckle at the jokes

The commentaries are great. There's been like, three or four jokes per season that I had no idea were in there, and it took the commentaries to make me realise that they were meant to be funny. Plus, the goofery and general fun atmosphere between the commenters is fun. And of course, DXC is quite possibly one of the greatest commentationary guys ever... he actually gets people to explain shit, rather than just laughing and saying to the other guys "remember when we did that with them?". Futurama DVD commentaries beat any other commentaries hands-down, apart from Red Dwarf. Red Dwarf DVD commentaries are at least on a par for brilliance.

Count: Obsesive-geek-fan tripe? Pfft. Most of us ARE obessive-geek-fans here. Otherwise we wouldn't have joined PEEL. Of COURSE we love that stuff!  :D

Fryish1, I suggest you don't do that. That is called "spamming". Spamming is a post that has no content and no point than to either annoy people or to gather post counts. A lot of people here are quite verbal about that sort of thing and they'll swoop on you faster than Garfield finds lasagne.  :)

I thought the commentaries were great, I certainly never got annoyed by anything DXC said, oh well everybody has their own point of view.

Throughout the commentaries, you could always rely on the voice actors for laughs, other staff members for interesting stories, and David X. Cohen for intelligent explanations of everything. I can't see what you'd have against him - I personally think he did a wonderful job, and I hope he shows up on some of the upcoming Simpsons DVD commentaries for episodes he wrote, too.  :)

Sheesh...I feel Mr. X. (S.) Cohen's commentary is among the most entertaining.  Too touchy guys.

Futurama rules.  Now we need a whole new series...horror themed.

over and out.

The only bad thing I can think of in the season 4 commentaries is that in some episodes there are too many big gaps where no one is saying anything.

DXC is a bit of a motormouth in them, but that's only because he has so much to say in so little time. He's not being arrogant or anything.

2. David X Cohen > your mother
3. Bam.
